Amnesia – 50th Anniversary of Mao’s Cultural Revolution

AMNESIA

Acrylic & ink on board (45 x 45 cm).

Mao’s Cultural Revolution (1966), which unleashed 10 years of chaos and bloodshed across China (with an estimated 1.5 million people killed), never happened according to today’s government. Or if it did, they’d rather we forgot about it.

The same goes for the Tiananmen Square massacre (1989).

Nothing quite as convenient as a dash of imposed nationwide amnesia.
